To Trump or Not

With the New Year beginning, it is a good time to pray for our leaders in office, especially President Trump, his family and his advisers.

I understand that there is a divide between opinions and thoughts concerning our President, however, God instructs us to pray for those in leadership, whether we agree with their policies or not.

Before you shut me out, let me remind you of some profound words given to King Solomon by God. In 2 Chronicles, the Lord tells King Solomon that if his people who are called by his name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then God will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land.

If we step back for a moment and look around, we can see how the disregard of authority has increased, respect for elders has decreased and how darkness is trying to cover the earth.

Why do people need a disaster to happen in order for hearts to turn back to God? It’s not too late for things to change. It’s not too late for good to prevail.

Daniel 2:21 tells us that it is God who sets up kings and brings them down. Do you not think for a moment that it is God who has placed President Trump in office? We, as believers in Christ, need to put aside our opinions and pray that President Trump seeks God for wisdom and instruction. We need to pray that his advisers also give godly counsel.

Change happens with prayer. I have listed some scriptures as a guide to begin praying for our leaders.

SCRIPTURE

1 Timothy 2: 1-3 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior,

Proverbs 11:14 For lack of guidance a nation falls,
but victory is won through many advisers.

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Proverbs 2: 1-15 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. 10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
